Based on our investigation of multiple player reports, we've observed that overlay and visual enhancing software, especially those with features that hook into the game application, can sometimes cause performance issues or unexpected crashes.
Overlay software provides a layer of additional information or controls that appear on top of the game. This can include performance metric software using Rivatuner Statistics Server (RTSS) or screen recording programs like OBS, which often directly connect to the game's processes.
Visual enhancement software for games is used to customize game graphics or add specific aesthetic effects. Common examples are ReShade and NVIDIA Filters, software that allow players to add post-processing effects like color correction, depth of field, and improved lighting. Visual enhancement software connects by injecting itself into the game's rendering process.
Audio enhancement software that, for example, enables users to apply custom EQ presets, spatial audio and noise cancellation to specific audio sources can potentially cause conflicts with games and occasionally lead to performance or stability issues. Common examples are Steelseries GG Sonar and Logitech G-Hub.
If you are experiencing issues such as stuttering, freezing or crashes and you happen to use such software, please try disabling or detaching it from the game application to see if this makes a difference.
Examples of such software include:
- OBS
- Reshade
- Overwolf
- SteelSeries GG Sonar
- Logitech G-Hub
- Rivatuner Statistics Server (RTSS)
- MSI Afterburner
- NVIDIA Filters (Nvidia App or GeForce Experience)
- Other game capture, performance metric, or visual enhancement software
